Pokémon Detective Pikachu is out this week in cinemas, with Pikachu being voiced by Ryan Reynolds. Having had Reynolds troll the internet this week by releasing a fake version of the full film, we can only guess as to what to expect in the real thing. We looked into the making of the film and found a few interesting points!
The making of the film
The Director is Rob Letterman who has directed films such as ‘Shark Tale’ and ‘Monsters vs Aliens’.
The run time is 1 hour 44 minutes.
It is being released in the UK and the USA on the 10th May.
It is written by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. Hernandez and Samir have also written other things such as the TV series ‘The Tick’.
Ryan Reynolds voices the main character Pikachu! Other big names are Bill Nighy, Diplo, Suki Waterhouse and Rita Ora.
The film was made in a number of countries including England, Scotland and the USA.
It is Rob Letterman’s first film to be released since 2015.
There was a petition for Danny DeVito to voice Pikachu at one point.
The official trailer was released on November 11th 2018.
Letterman said that they worked closely with the Pokémon company to do things correctly. So it should fit in with the universe well!
There are some large crowd chants in the film. As a matter of fact these were recorded during the Pokémon World Championships in Nashville in 2018.
Due to the huge success of the Pokémon Go game the film was allowed to be made!
In 2016, The Hollywood Reporter announced a live bid for the rights to the film. Later that year they announced that Legendary Entertainment had won the auction, having beaten Sony and Warner Brothers.
Outside of Deadpool, this is Reynolds and Soni’s first collaboration together.
It looks like only 60 Pokémon will be featured in the film.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Reynolds said; “Some things would come out a little PG – 13 bordering on rated R. That stuff didn’t make it.”
Letterman also spoke to ComicBook.com, saying how nervous he was about the release of the film! He said “I’m really nervous. I just want it to do well, and I want people to enjoy it. I especially want the hardcore fans to appreciate it and give it the blessing that we worked hard to get.”

The Pokémon franchise was created by Satoshi Tajiri. He is a game designer from Japan and is CEO of Game Freak.
Pokémon was created in 1995.
The original demographic for Pokémon was children, however there is also a huge adult fanbase.
Pokémon is owned by a number of companies. There are three companies involved and they are Game Freak, Creatures and Nintendo.
The earliest concept of Pokémon was to catch bugs, as a matter of fact the concept today is not that much different.
Pokémon has become one of the most successful video game franchises after Super Mario Bros.
