The ‘Who is Wilson Worldwide?’ series is a way of letting you get to know exactly who we are, whether you are a follower of what we do, someone looking to get to know a bit more about the industry, or just someone who happened to stumble upon us. The company is small in number but has a huge passion for creating the best possible content for your TV, and over the next few weeks you will get to know the people behind the ideas, when we ask them a little bit about themselves.

It is my turn this week so I should introduce myself! My name is Katie Dickinson and I am in charge of the social media for WWP. I created this blog page to help you see what it is like to work at WWP, and I hope you have been enjoying getting to meet the team as much as I have!

Social Media and Office Manager

What is your job description/ what are your responsibilities?

I look after our social media profiles, which means creating content to share with our audience as well as keeping an eye on trends and news. The content I share focuses on information about projects that we are working on, plus sharing updates about the team. My favourite things to share are behind the scenes pictures. As well as this, I do work for WWP’s charity Genisys, by organising internships for students. 

How long have you worked here?

Three months!

What were you doing before you worked here?

I studied Sociology at university which is where I got my first taste of production, I had my own radio show, plus I helped create promotional videos for my university. After graduating, I got a job in a cinema. In my spare time I created my own blog and spent a lot of time creating content for the blog. From there, I changed jobs and went to work in a solicitors. I loved it, but I always knew that I wanted to work in TV production which led me to working here!

What is the best thing about your job?

Getting to document the hard work of everyone in the company. Knowing how much work goes into making these projects, makes it even more exciting getting to show off the final project. Plus I do enjoy taking a funny video of the team every now and again. The best pictures can be found on our instagram page!

What is your favourite project that you have worked on?

There are so many that the team are working on at the moment that I am so excited about, so I can’t really pick one. I have also really enjoyed working on this blog series, where we have been finding out about everyone as it has helped me get to know the team better. I have also had the chance to develop my own project which is teaching me so much about the mechanics of development so I have to say that is up there with my favourite projects. 

What made you want to work in TV production?

I have always wanted to work in TV, I don’t remember a time when I haven’t. It has always been fascinating to me as to what goes on behind the scenes. My favourite genre of TV are documentaries, having studied Sociology at university, it made me realise how important it is to investigate the world we live in. TV is a great way of doing this, while reaching a large audience. 

For anyone wanting to work in TV production what advice would you give them?

 If you are struggling to get in to the industry don’t give up and keep asking around for work or experience. Don’t let any knock backs stop you!

Any hobbies outside of work?

Reading I love to read, if I am not watching a TV/ film I am probably reading something. I also volunteer at a care home where I spend time with one of the residents on a weekly basis. I go on walks with them, play board games with them or just have a chat over a cup of tea. When I was younger I used to play piano so I have spent a bit of time trying to play for them, I have also tried to teach them a little bit, although I am useless at sight-reading so they have been very patient with me.

Favourite programme to watch that is on at the moment and why?

So it has technically finished but it would have to be The Handmaid’s Tale, I read the book in school and loved it then, but to see the interpretation of what happens to the main character after the book is so exciting. It is a real thrill ride and completely unpredictable. It is something I cannot recommend enough so if you are looking for a new book, or a new series please watch this! I am also a massive fan of documentaries and I love 24 hours in police custody. Plus Killing Eve, I finished that series in two days! 

Any secret talents/party tricks?

I can touch my nose with my tongue.
