Everything you need to know about Fast and Furious: Hobbs & Shaw

The first Fast and Furious film was released in 2001, since then the franchise has gone on to release a total of 9 films. Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw is the first spin-off from the films and is focused on Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s characters. Here is everything you need to know.

About the film

The film is directed by David Leitch who has also worked on ‘John Wick’ and ‘Deadpool 2’. He has also got a long history of working in stunts, having worked on ‘X-Mens Origins: Wolverine’ and ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’.

The film is produced by Morgan, Johnson, Statham and Hiram Garcia.

Filming took place in Scotland, California and England.

As well as the two leading men, the film also stars, Helen Mirren, Idris Elba and Vanessa Kirby.

The idea of creating a spin-off film came while filming ‘The Fate of the Furious’. The plans were agreed at the end of the filming after seeing the comedic chemistry between Johnson and Statham.

During the filming of ‘The Fate of the Furious’ it was highly publicised there was a rift between Johnson and Vin Diesel. It is rumoured that the spin-off movie was the cause of this animosity. It was reported that Vin Diesel even cut some of Johnson’s films and also didn’t show up for filming on one of the days.

After all the tension that the feud between Johnson and Diesel caused, which even led to other stars criticising the spin-off including Michelle Rodriguez, Johnson said it would be unlikely that he would return for the 10th film.

Dwayne Johnson’s cousin is in the film and his character is the brother of Johnson’s character.

The movie is set two years after the events of the ‘Fast and Furious 8’.

Director David Leitch said that the film would have a different feel to the franchise but would still include the fan favourites such as action sequences and cars.

Idris Elba refused to say any lines that could be associated with James Bond. He is rumoured to be in the running to be the next Bond.

The movie’s first trailer was released before the Super Bowl.

When asked about taking the franchise into space, writer Chris Morgan (who has written 7 of the 9 films) said “nothing’s out of the question.”

The film was made with a budget of $200 million one of the biggest budgets for any Fast and Furious films.

Statham claims that Johnson had to be CGI-ed into a supercar because he suffered from motion-sickness. Whether this is true or not has not been revealed as it could just be the case that Johnson was not able to fit into the car. The uncertainty comes from the actors relationship of being able to tease each other, which is reflected in their characters in the film. He then said “Is your tummy alright, yeah? Your belly OK? Go and have a lie down. 30 miles per hour? Go have a drink of water. Go and have a little sleep.”

Vanessa Kirby said that working with Johnson was the “best thing I’ve ever done.”

Idris revelaed that the highlight of his filming was the fast machines. “I didn’t get to ride any cars. I rode bikes…it’s an electric bike. It is definitely one of the highlights of making a film in this family. If you like cars…if you like speed, this is the one to do!”
