The book starts in New York, where Anna Petrescu goes missing, presumed dead, after the 9/11 terror attacks. As she is missing, she uses her status to escape from America, only to be pursued across the world from Toronto to London, to Hong Kong, Tokyo and Bucharest as she tries to get answers.
