Qualifications help us to decide if someone is suitable for a role, but as we all know these days an employer looks for so much more. I’ve seen so many people joke about how hard it is to get good grades, get any type of experience, maintain a good social life and get enough sleep these days. So what is necessary to an employer, what do they really look for? Previously, I asked our MD what quality he looks for in a person when hiring. You can read what he had to say here. This time I asked Josh what he looks for in terms of qualifications.
In regards to specific qualifications, for myself, I do generally see a difference in persona and drive if a degree in one of the media spheres was accomplished. It is because it speaks to relevance for the candidate in our field, which normally translates well. However, I don’t believe it is a hard and fast rule. If someone was a runner or interned in development or perhaps got in the industry another way, the same type of vigour is usually seen. There are also cases where someone just wants it a lot and will work incredibly hard to learn and grow in the industry. So essentially for me I always aim to look at the individual themselves rather than their CV but it is undeniable that if someone has a history or degree in media they come across in a better light.
