Frozen 2 – What you need to know

The return of Frozen after 6 years has left most in disbelief, yes you read that right it’s been SIX years since Frozen. Although the infamous song ‘Let It Go’ seems to have frozen itself in time and has certainly become a Disney classic, it only seems like yesterday that we were all hearing it for the first time.

The basics

Has a run time of 1 hour 43 minutes.

It is rated a U.

Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. Buck directed the first Frozen film and the 1999 version of Tarzan. Lee also directed the first Frozen film and has written films such as Zootropolis and Wreck-It Ralph.

The screenplay was written by Jennifer Lee.

Stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad. Kristen Bell is best known for her role in ‘Veronica Mars’ and being the voice of ‘Gossip Girl’. Idina Menzel has been in Broadway most notably in ‘Wicked’ playing Elphaba. She has also been in ‘Glee’. Groff has also been in ‘Glee’ and ‘Mindhunter’. Gad is known for ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Murder on the Orient Express’.

The film

The film was first teased in ‘Zootropolis’.

The first teaser trailer was released in February 2019 and became the most watched animated movie trailer of all time in the first 24 hours.

Mattea Conforti voices young Elsa in the film, but in the Broadway adaptation she voices the young Anna.

Is the Disney debut of Jason Ritter.

Elsa was never barefoot in the original movie and in this film she is so the animators had to remodel her feet.

There is a post credit scene so make sure to stay until the very very end.

Josh Gad said that coming back for a sequel was “overwhelming”

“One of the lightbulb moments was coming up with the ending,” Chris Buck said. “We felt like Anna and Elsa, their journeys, this is where they can end up and we thought, ‘OK, if we can do that, and have our True North, let’s craft a story that can earn that ending’.

In regards to talking about another Frozen Jennifer Lee said “It feels like the end, but the first one felt like the end when we did it. We don’t know. I think, right now, it feels like the end.”

Kristen Bell said that when Anna was described originally she was much more of a standard princess type but Bell said “I thought, ‘Do I have the moxie to say to these people who just hired me — but I’d be remiss if I didn’t! — to ask if I could infuse her with the things I am desperate to see? Which is a Disney princess who doesn’t have great posture. Who talks too fast and too much! Who talks as if her brain has come online and she wears her heart on her sleeve and thinks love is her superpower.”

It is Disney’s last film of the 2010s and is their 61st film.
