Making the film

The trailer for the film was released on 17th July. The world premiere of Hustlers was at the Toronto International Film Festival on 7th September 2019.

Jennifer Lopez is very much involved in Hustlers as she is not only the star of the film, but she is also one of the producers. Even though this film hasn’t been fully released yet, it has already got Oscar buzz as reports are saying this is Jennifer’s best work yet. Not to mention that Will Ferrell is also a producer on this film.

Cost of production was $20-30 million and was filmed in New York City. The film very much shows women in high power positions. Furthermore it was written, directed, edited, produced and starred an all-female cast.

The film was based on a true story from an article Jessica Pressler had written for The Cut in 2015. This inspired writer/director Lorene Scafaria to write the screenplay.

Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Keke Palmer and Lili Reinhart all had to take pole dancing lessons for the film. In the film Jennifer was a professional stripper and pole dancer however she had never done so prior. She had the toughest of times as she only had 6 weeks of training to get all the moves and look like a professional. Cardi B, who used to be a stripper, revealed that she is amazing at pole dancing however it took her years to master. A big difference compared to short 6 weeks. Jennifer admitted it was a brutal month and a half as she came out with bruises and chaffing. Despite this it was all worth it as she looks incredible.

Facts

Cardi B comes from a very similar background to the characters in the film, as she admitted to drugging and robbing men when she was a stripper to make ends meet.

Jenifer Lopez and Cardi B have already worked together as they collaborated on Lopez’s song, “Dinero,” in 2018.

Lili’s character Annabelle has quite a few vomiting scenes in the film, she revealed that the vomit was made up of crushed animal crackers and sprite.

Jennifer said that during a fight scene between hers’ and Constance’s character she thought she had broken Constance’s nose as the phone she was holding, smacked her in the nose and it started bleeding and then she had a little bump for a while.
