The Film
Will Smith is a household name. He is an actor, comedian, producer, rapper and songwriter and rose to fame in ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’, (don’t even pretend you haven’t got that song ingrained in your mind!) Smith has since gone on to star in films such as ‘Men In Black’, ‘Independence Day’, ‘I Robot’ and many more.
Gemini Man also stars Mary Elixabeth Winstead, who has previously been in ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the world’ and ‘Fargo’.
It was filmed in a number of places including Hungary, Colombia and the USA.
Several directors were attached at different points as well as numeros actors including Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford.
Filming took place from February through to May 2018.
Gemini Man premiered at the Zurich Film festival in October 2019.
The film has been 22 years in the works. The concept was originally sold to be produced by Sony Pictures in 1997. The project fell through as at the time Disney’s visual effects department was not as high tech as it needed to be to be able to make the main actor younger. The technology was not developed enough.
Skydance Media bought the film from Disney in 2016.
Ang Lee was hired to direct the film in April 2017.
Clive Owen and Mary Elizabeth Winstead were cast in January 2018.
Winstead won the role over Tatiana Maslany.
One of the trailers features music by Jaden Smith (Will Smith’s son).
This is the second time Will Smith has played at hitman. The first being his role in ‘Suicide Squad’.
Will Smith is actually a Libra in real life.
While most movies are shot in 24 frames per second, this film was shot in 120 frames per second.
When asked what what he says to his younger self, Smith replied saying ““I would want my younger self to talk to my older self, not the other way around. My younger self definitely had many doubts, many fears, but I was a fighter; I enjoyed it when something got hard. That would make me obsessive, make me work around the clock. I want to maintain some of those qualities.”
